What Happened on Route 46 in Teterboro

Moonachie police said officers went to the Amazon parking lot along Route 46 at about 9 a.m. after getting a report that a person was tugging at vehicle door handles. A police lieutenant said an officer spotted someone who fit the description waiting at a westbound Route 46 bus stop. The lieutenant said Gaba ran across the road shortly after questioning began and was struck by a passing car. Police said Gaba was not seriously injured. The lieutenant said officers took him into custody, and he was treated at Hackensack University Medical Center.

What Comes Next After the Moonachie Police Response

Police said the driver who struck Gaba remained at the scene, and officers learned the driver's identity. Police have not filed any charges against the driver. Court records list an obstruction of the administration of law charge against Gaba tied to this case. Once treated, Gaba was brought to Moonachie police headquarters to be processed, then held in the Bergen County Jail.

When a road stays closed for hours after a crash, it is often because investigators are documenting the scene. They measure and photograph everything before the vehicles are moved.

Affected by an accident like this?

Here is what people in New Jersey usually need, in the order it comes up.

  1. Emergency care. Emergency rooms must check and stabilize you, even if you can't pay. The bill comes later.

  2. Your belongings. A damaged bike, phone, or clothes can be part of what insurance pays for.

  3. Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.

  4. Hospital bills. Most hospitals have a program that cuts bills for people with low income, and you can apply months after the first bill.

  5. Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
