2 Killed, 1 Injured in Ava Off‑Road Vehicle Accident
Deputies were called to the wooded area near Tiger Road shortly after midnight, the Jackson County Sheriff's Office said.
Three people were killed or hurt in a side-by-side crash near Tiger Road in rural Ava on November 5, according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
How the Tiger Road Crash Unfolded
Deputies responded at about 12:17 a.m. The sheriff's office said evidence showed the side-by-side was on trails in the woods when it rolled over into a creek bed. The sheriff's office identified the two people who died as Alex G. Auld and Kelsie S. Blue, both 35 and both from Murphysboro. The third person aboard, David A. McCaleb, 62, who is also from Murphysboro, was flown from the scene to a hospital in the St. Louis area. The sheriff's office said he is in serious but stable condition.
Where the Ava Investigation Stands
The sheriff's office and the county coroner's office are still investigating. Ava and Campbell Hill firefighters and the Jackson County Ambulance Service also went to the scene. No charges have been announced.
A full investigation into a serious crash often takes weeks, and sometimes months. Investigators usually wait for vehicle data and lab results before they finish their report.

Lost someone in a crash like this?
Here is what families in Illinois usually need, in the order it comes up.
Death certificates. The funeral home or the family can order them, and banks and insurers each usually want a copy.
Crash report. The crash report is usually ready a few weeks after the crash, and you can still get it later.
Funeral costs. Every state has a victim fund that pays funeral costs after some crashes, and the fund decides who qualifies.
Survivor payments. If the person who died had worked, their spouse or children may get monthly Social Security payments. Applying early matters.
Insurance offer. You can turn down the insurer's first offer and ask for more.
