Leeann Chesebro, 28, of Vernon, was hospitalized with injuries that were not life-threatening after a two-vehicle car crash at Skyline Drive and Knoxboro Road in Augusta on Wednesday, the Oneida County Sheriff's Office said.
The Wednesday Morning Crash on Knoxboro Road
The other driver has been identified as Frederick Abel, 89, of Vernon Center. Deputies said Abel was traveling east on Knoxboro Road around 8 a.m. and had halted at the Skyline Drive stop sign. Deputies said he then tried to turn left onto Skyline Drive, and his car moved into the path of Chesebro's southbound car.
The two vehicles collided. The sheriff's office said deputies from the Waterville Field Office responded at about 8:03 a.m. Authorities said both drivers had injuries that were not life-threatening, and both were taken to Wynn Hospital for treatment.
What Comes Next After the Augusta Collision
Deputies said Abel was given a ticket for not yielding the right of way at the stop sign. He is due to answer the citation in Augusta Town Court on a date to be set later. The sheriff's office has not announced any other charges.
A full investigation into a serious crash often takes weeks, and sometimes months. Investigators usually wait for vehicle data and lab results before they finish their report.
